Journey time to Madrid will be reduced two years before that when hybrid trains come into operation
The Development Minister, José Blanco, has promised the AVE high speed rail line for Murcia in 2014 on a visit to the region this Monday.
The Minister declined to take any questions at the press conference held in the Palacio de San Esteban, the seat the of the regional government, but also announced that, two years before the AVE link reaches the region, ‘hybrid’ trains will be in operation which will reduce journey time to Madrid by 35 minutes.
The Minister was in the region to sign a number of agreements, one of which was the AVE link with the future international airport at Corvera on the high speed line between Murcia and Cartagena.
The EFE news agency notes that another of the agreements signed on Monday by the Minister and the Murcia President, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, affects the motorway from Zeneta to Santomera.
In the Valencia region meanwhile, an AVE train on the newly-inaugurated line from Madrid arrived 24 minutes late on Monday. The problem was a technical fault, but it means that the 287 passengers who travelled on the train will have half the cost of their ticket refunded by Renfe.
